Lights, Camera, ACT: what’s next for architecture filmmaking?

10 June 2022

18:00 -20:30

Films, movies, reels, stories, shorts, GIFS… moving image is rapidly becoming the dominant form of online communication.

Yet, the built environment is still playing catch up within this new visual landscape, producing limited video content (and much of it all too similar).

So, how can we innovate the way we film architecture?
Can it be fun, exciting and playful? Or must it stay slow and meditative?
Where does architecture fit in the era of TikTok?

The event is joint-hosted by Hawkins\Brown and networking group BuildUp. You will have a chance to watch some short films and listen to a panel of filmmaking experts from the industry. It will be a fun, quizzical debate on the exciting potential of architectural filmmaking, exploring how we can create films that reflect the very people we design buildings for.

Speakers:
Amy Frearson, editor-at-large, Dezeen
Silvia Tossici, Creative Director, Squint/Opera
Penelope Haralambidou, Professor of Architecture and Spatial Culture | Director of Communications, Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL
