‘A MODERNIST GEM’: LAUNCH

24 June 2022

17:00 -20:00

EXHIBITION & PROGRAMME

“A MODERNIST GEM”: THE BATTLE TO SAVE LEIGHAM COURT SHELTERED HOUSING SCHEME - Friday 24th June, 5pm - 8PM - Friday 12th August 5pm - 8pm

This Exhibition documents the 'three - year battle', in which a group of Diverse Elders joined forces with Community Activists and Architectural Maveriks, in an attempt to prevent the demolition and restore their "Modernist Jem", of a Sheltered Housing Scheme.

What Happened Next would end up Re-writing Modern British Architectural History, creating contemporary heroes and martyrs, and reviving a community.

This Exhibition also acknowledges the wave of other Public Housing Campaigns heralded after the Leigham Court Campaign. Insight will be gained into how these Housing Campaigns, have led the way in 'next level' Activism, and contemporary citizenship.

THE PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

An exciting programme of events will include and give voice to Residents, Architects, Housing Activists, Filmmakers, Journalists, Community Organisers, on the following themes.
