The London Blossom Garden Design Team Tour

11 June 2022

12:00 -14:00

The London Blossom Garden was commissioned by the National Trust and The Mayor of London, who opened the site in May 2021. This biodiversity-rich garden features 33 blossoming trees and 33 timber bands in the path – to represent the 33 London boroughs, including the City of London. Throughout the scheme, sustainably resourced materials have been used. The bespoke benches are fabricated with reclaimed tropical timber from sites within London. The handmade terrazzo concrete bands contain a high content of recycled marble, the finished speckled effect looking akin to blossoms. The timber stamped concrete path is fabricated with recycled concrete and aggregates. Join the design leads; Mak Gilchrist, Adam White and Andree Davies, to discuss the material elements and design details. We’ll talk about the many layers of meaning in our design, and how we incorporated the client brief with community engagement feedback and employed inclusive design standards throughout the scheme. If the weather's fine, bring a picnic to immerse yourself in the site.
