Tallinn Architecture Biennale: NFT in architecture?

06 June 2022

18:00 -20:00

The winner of Tallinn Architecture Biennale 2022 Installation Competition is Fungible Non-Fungible by IHEARTBLOB, who will share their ideas about the future of architecture. Aleksandra Belitskaja, from IHEARTBLOB together with architecture historian Owen Hapkins invites to discuss how can we challenges the traditional role of the architect, as 'Master builder' and proposes a novel, decentralised and systematic approach towards architectural design, fabrication and funding in which the community are both the designers and investors leading towards an emergent structure that evolves and grows over time. With the integration of NFTs and blockchain, local and global community members confirm ownership of the architectural components that they have designed and through participation they enable a model of architecture which taps into new forms of collective governance, collaboration and economy. IHEARTBLOB is an award winning architectural design studio and research collective formed by Aleksandra Belitskaja, Ben James and Shaun McCallum, currently based in the UK.
Aleksandra Belitskaja is an Estonian architectural designer and game developer whose work centers on novel interactive design models and the interplay of new emergent aesthetics. Her projects focus on utilizing computer graphics and game engine technology to explore new forms of connectivity between audience, architect and community. Her experimental work and proposals have been published internationally. Aleksandra has taught workshops on building dynamic spatial conditions through custom built game design environments and experimental 3D modelling softwares. She received her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Dundee, graduating with distinction, before continuing her masters studies at Die Angewandte in Studio Greg Lynn. Throughout her professional architecture career, Aleksandra has worked for award winning internationally-known innovative offices in Stuttgart, Vienna and Los Angeles.
