Explore how an extraordinary living art project has transformed the landscape of the island of Inujima and enriched the lives of its inhabitants.
Since 2010, this tiny Japanese island has been host to the ever-evolving Inujima ‘Art House Project,’ which brings together architects, artists, and local people. Central to the project is the concept of ‘symbiosis': the interaction between nature, art, and architecture. The installations, buildings, and works of art created are inextricably linked with their surroundings on the island.
At Japan House London you can embark on a journey around Inujima, taking in architectural models of the artists’ works, as well as videos, photographs, and testimonies from residents on the transformative impact of the project on their lives. The exhibition has been created by Hasegawa Yūko, the artistic director of Inujima ‘Art House Project,’ and architect Sejima Kazuyo. Discover how Inujima could be a blueprint of artistic co-existence for the future.
