Design Workshop by CSM’s Architecture Degree Studio 11: ‘Act’ to ‘decolonise climate and socially responsive design’

The effects of climate change are known to be disproportionately affecting the socio-economically vulnerable communities, living in high risk areas, resulting in climate, spatial inequity. Join us for a series of talks and participatory design workshop, at a free event, organised in collaboration with the LB Tower Hamlets’ Regeneration team and the CSM’s architecture studio 11.

The event will facilitate a participatory design workshop with young people and champions from the local communities, the CSM Architecture Studio 11 and the representatives from the local authorities.

For connecting, engaging, participating with local marginalised groups to develop tools for “Spatial Activism” and investigating ways architecture can respond to climate and social injustice.

Light Refreshments and tea will be provided.

17:30 – 17:40: Welcome by the Head of LB Tower Hamlets Regeneration: Sripriya Sudhakar.

17:40 – 18:10: Performances of Spatial Activism
Carnival of waste “Wastivism” & ’Upcycling Waste’
Children’s activism
Fabric Parade- History of tailoring in East End
Air Pollution – “Is Air Racist”
Environmental Cost of Food - Recreating market stall

18:15 – 18:45: Participatory Design workshops – with young people and champions from the local communities, the CSM Architecture Studio 11 and the representatives from the local authorities.

18:45 – 19:15: Reflective Session - We will gather, present, discuss and reflect on the co-creation of the crafts and design from the participatory Design workshops, chaired by Studio 11 Tutor: Kleanthis Kyriakou.

19:15 – 19:20: Presentation by a Guest speaker
19:20 – 19:25: Q&A and comments from the audience
19:25 – 19:30: Closing remarks
