As part of its Community Investment Programme, Camden Council is redeveloping the 1960s Agar Grove estate to provide 507 new homes; a mixture of council homes, homes for sale, and homes for rent by Camden Living at below market rents. The scheme includes retrofitting an existing tower block, as well as new landscaping and play spaces, a shop, café, and community and business spaces. The estate is being redeveloped in phases to allow the estate’s tenants to move directly from their existing home into their new one. All 249 of the original homes on the estate had significant investment needs. All new build blocks are being constructed to Passivhaus standards so are very airtight with triple-glazed windows and well-insulated walls. Because heat is retained, and is reused by the ventilation system, energy bills are reduced by up to 70%.
